In Pope Francis' new apostolic letter on Saint Joseph, the Holy Father reveals that for more than forty years, he had recited daily, a special prayer to Saint Joseph after morning prayer.

He said that the prayer is taken from a 19th-century French prayer book of the Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus and Mary.

According to the Supreme Pontiff, “It expresses devotion and trust, and even poses a certain challenge to Saint Joseph.”

Here is the prayer, as Pope Francis shared in the letter:

Glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, whose power makes the impossible possible, come to my aid in these times of anguish and difficulty.

Take under your protection the serious and troubling situations that I commend to you, that they may have a happy outcome.

My beloved father, all my trust is in you. Let it not be said that I invoked you in vain, and since you can do everything with Jesus and Mary, show me that your goodness is as great as your power, Amen.

This simple but very powerful prayer is very effective for our day to day activities. There are stories of St. Joseph coming to the aid of those who invoked him in the past. Like that of the miraculous staircase, where it is  believed that St. Joseph aided the building of the somewhat impossible-to-construct staircase of the Sisters of Loreto, after the Sisters reached out to him, seeking his assistance. We too should seek Saint Joseph's assistance like our heroes past - the Saints and Blessed of the Church, so that he would help us in our daily spiritual and physical struggles.
