When she crossed the finish line she pulled a picture of Our Lady Mother of Perpetual Help from under her jersey, showed it to the cameras and held it

An Ethiopian Athlete at the Olympic Games in 2012, Meseret Defar, on Friday, August 10, won the Gold medal in the 5000 meters Women Run.

At the conclusion of the race, Meseret Defar of Ethiopia showed the World where her help comes from. As soon as she crossed the finish line, she pulled a picture of Our Lady Mother of Perpetual Help from under her jersey, showed it to the cameras and held it up to her face in tears and prayer.

Defar's gesture raised a lot of mixed feelings in different parts of the World. This act of thanksgiving to Our Lady must have been provoked bay her victory in the race. She may have cried to Our Lady of Perpetual help for aid to win the competition, and the Blessed Virgin Mary did not fall her.

All who seek Our Lady's help, always get it, even hardened Criminals, as she is never known to fail. Just like it is said in the Memorare, "never was it known, that anyone who ever recourse to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left forsaken."

May Our Lady help us in all our necessities, and grant us the necessary graces to make heaven through Christ our Lord. Amen.
